This watercolor was commissioned by a lovely American lady who came out on her own to volunteer in Botswana. She wanted to have something to help her remember her (non-traditional) home (built with locally quarried rock) away from home when she returned to the US after her years in Africa. Employees at the village cooperative where she worked quickly took to her, not just because she was a white-haired grandmother and senior citizens are (admirably) respected in Botswana (and elsewhere in Africa), but also due to her warmth, compassion, and hard work. I've always hoped that the painting succeeded in triggering many happy memories.
